Each session combines studio work, focused 15 minute technique demonstrations, individual coaching, and supportive group critique. Demonstrations may cover color, value, composition, brushwork, layering, texture, glazing, watercolor techniques, acrylic techniques, oil painting techniques, and other topics based on student needs. Students will develop the vocabulary and confidence to discuss artwork and make stronger artistic decisions. Whether you are beginning your painting journey, developing your skills, or working towards a more passionate artistic voice, Open Studio Painting provides the guidance, flexibility, and encouragement to help you grow as an independent artist. All levels welcome.
During each class, the instructor will present short 15- minute technique demonstrations followed by opportunities for all students to ask questions (verbal or by chat), and observe the painting process in real time. Demonstrations can include topics such as color theory and mixing, brushstrokes, value scale, layering, building composition, illustration led techniques, and many more tips related to the overall group mediums and interests. Students also participate in studio critiques, where opportunities to discuss active work, receive constructive feedback, and develop the ability to speak with confidence about their own artwork. The goal is not to just complete paintings. The goal is to allow students to become individual artists with more independence, confidence, and become more articulate with artistic language. These emerging artists will learn to evaluate their own work and make informed artistic decisions. This social group atmosphere will allow creativity to flow and give opportunity to hear about techniques or mediums that a student may have never discovered!
Hello! I am an art facilitator with multiple hats who has a passion to teach art! I have a BFA from Kendall College of Art and Design and have taught art professionally for 7 years. I'm also an actively working artist who is dedicated to sharing tips and tricks of painting. I have a greenhouse and garden outside of my studio that inspire my creativity and I would love to invite you into my studio and share my insights. Just to note, you may encounter some friendly deer sightings, cat tails on the screen, happy plants, and more inspiring muses that merge art with passion. In just 8 weeks, you will be a more relaxed and confident artist. I make art available to all and make the art process understandable. Are you curious?
Best,
Stephanie Bay
