In this class, students will learn how to prepare and structure their artwork so it works efficiently within a game engine. From understanding resolution and optimization techniques to learning how shaders, lighting, and asset pipelines work, this course is all about bridging the gap between artistic expression and technical implementation. Expect to gain insights into both 2D and 3D workflows suitable for mobile, console, and desktop platforms.
I’ll be your instructor, and I bring over 15 years of professional experience in the gaming industry, having led and trained production teams in game art development across a wide range of projects. My credits include major titles such as Silent Hill: Downpour (Konami), Just Dance 2023 Edition (Ubisoft), The Incredible Hulk (Sega), Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest (Warner Bros), Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (CD Projekt Red), and Anito: Defend a Land Enraged—the first Filipino-made PC game. My background also includes work on metaverse projects for Meta and Microsoft while at Accenture.
The session will be conducted in a lecture format with opportunities for live Q&A and demo previews. This beginner-friendly environment is ideal for those curious about game development or visual storytelling in interactive media. The ultimate goal is to highlight that effective game art is not just about visual quality—it’s about meeting technical requirements that ensure performance, clarity, and functionality across platforms, no matter how powerful the hardware becomes.
