We’ll cover sculpting and modeling in ZBrush/Maya, texturing with Substance Painter, and rendering in Substance Painter/Stager or Unreal Engine, along with a first look at 3D scanning and photogrammetry. Each lesson is hands-on and project-based, designed to build your technical ability step by step.
As a professional artist with credits on projects for Marvel, Disney, Lucasfilm, AMC, and Netflix, I’ll share real-world insights into how studios expect assets to be delivered, how teams collaborate, and what makes a strong portfolio. By the end of the course, you’ll have both a finished digital asset and the foundational skills to take the next step toward a career in production.
My name is Andrew Herrera. I'm Gnomon BFA Alumni and fellow Nerd. I'm a professional 3D Concept Artist and Digital Designer with over 8 years of experience in the film, television, and entertainment industry. I’ve had the privilege of working with world-renowned studios including Marvel, Disney, Lucasfilm, AMC, and Netflix, creating digital assets, props, and characters that appear on screen in blockbuster productions.
What drew me to digital production was the ability to bring imagination to life — to take a simple sketch or concept and transform it into a cinematic, production-ready model. Over the years, I’ve worked across multiple pipelines including sculpting, texturing, rendering, 3D printing, and scanning, and I enjoy blending both digital and practical effects.
Teaching this class excites me because I know what it feels like to be starting out, wanting to break into the industry but unsure of where to begin. My goal is to give students not just the technical skills, but also the professional insight and confidence they need to start building their portfolios and pursuing studio opportunities. I will give you insight on professional rates, contract negotiations, and overall peer-reviewed discussions you won't find anywhere else. Let's get to work!
