The study of economics, even for a short 10 hours, can be focused on our individual choices and we call this microeconomics because micro means "small." If I make a different decision than you do, we can agree there is nothing wrong with having "tastes and preferences" to guide us. All together our choices of what we would be willing to pay for a pair of jeans form a Demand curve. Supply curves come from sellers deciding at what price they would willing to sell. That is the foundation of microeconomics.Macro means "large" and macroeconomics refers to choices made by nations and international trade. This is where we will learn about imports and exports, banks and interest rates, and fiscal and monetary policy. I do know that your eyes are drifting away already, but I can help you here with good questions like, "Why is French perfume so expensive?" Also, how does China make things so inexpensively? We can answer these macroeconomic questions and help you see where your choice of air might come from.I want to give you a different choice of learning econ basics because of Dr. Ivey. He challenged us to bring news to class for discussion and he proved that economic basics can analyze any subject from car sales to popular music to marriage. He helped me see the incentives that drive me and I want to show you the way that we decide things changes if we understand the foundations of economics.I have taught economics for many years and when I was a professor, my classes always filled up first. I am very good at this and I will enjoy walking with you through the path. When I went to college, I was married and had two children. I really didn't know what to study as much as I knew I wanted to learn about business. The first day of Dr. Ivey's Intro to Microeconomics class, he challenged us to bring news stories to him and he would teach us how to use economics to analyze the story. He covered popular music, marriage, health insurance, and so many other topics. I fell in love with the analysis he used to illustrate how many decisions we make under the influence of basic economics.I have taught economics in trade schools and in universities and my classes always filled up first. I am a very good teacher and I love watching the light bulbs over your heads light up. I ask tons of questions and I make sure you are getting what you came for.
