In addition to learning basic dietary and physical activity recommendations and suggestions (including meal design/recipes) we will review the various psychological and spiritual approaches to dealing with stress. Basic relaxation techniques will be covered and deeper meditation strategies will be discussed.
In addition to being a Certified Health Education Specialist, I have been teaching Health, Public Health and Epidemiology courses at the University level since 2008. Much of the information presented was originally targeted for health care professionals including physicians and nurses to enhance their approach to medicine.
We will have weekly live classes in which the students will have an opportunity to share their own experiences with the course materials through group discussions and projects. Collaboration is an important part of the learning process. Lectures can be boring if it is the only method of learning, but brief lectures, mixed in with student participation is the key to a successful learning experience.
